Expert Turf Installation in Texas
The Woodlands Grass follows a ten-step process for installing artificial turf, ensuring that every installation meets or exceeds our highest standards of quality. Our trained professionals focus their attention on each installation, considering the nuances of each project. Here’s our step-by-step guide for turf installation in Texas:
1. Ground Clearing
The first step in the turf installation process is to clear the ground of any existing lawn or debris. We use a spade or turf cutter to remove existing turf. A clean base is crucial for long-term quality, so we also remove sod, rocks, gravel, and other debris as needed for successful turf installation in Texas.
2. Base Height
Next, we ensure the base is at the desired finish grade for proper drainage, keeping it approximately 2 inches to 4 inches below the final grade. We remove or add soil accordingly, preparing for effective turf installation in Texas.
3. Gravel Sub-Base
We then install 3/8th-inch down to 1/8th-inch crushed drain rock and/or decomposed granite to create a stabilized sub-base. This base, about 3 inches thick, provides a solid foundation while allowing proper drainage, which is essential for quality turf installation.
4. Grading
The crushed rock is graded to meet drainage requirements, preventing water build-up and ensuring the correct finish level for the turf installation in Texas.
5. Compacting the Base
We use a plate compactor or roller to achieve 90% to 95% compaction, ensuring the base’s stability. We apply water to the gravel before tamping to reduce dust and enhance compaction, checking for inconsistencies once dry.
6. Weed Barrier
A weed-suppressing membrane is laid over the lawn space to prevent weed growth. Optionally, a layer of shock-absorbent material can be added for extra cushioning, which is ideal for play areas. Several padding options, from ¼-inch to 3-inch thickness, are available during turf installation.
7. Laying the Turf
Turf rolls, which come in 15-foot widths, are laid out thoughtfully to best fit your lawn. The natural direction of the grass blades is considered to maintain a consistent look.
8. Cutting the Grass
We trim the turf to fit the specific landscape, accommodating various shapes and borders, ensuring a perfect fit for your yard.
9. Securing and Seaming
Edges are secured with 6-inch galvanized landscape spikes or sod staples, inserted at 6-inch intervals around the edges and more frequently along the seams This method ensures the seams are nearly invisible and highly durable.
10. Infill
Infill, comprising acrylic-coated sand with antimicrobial properties and Zeofill for pet applications, is spread between the blades of artificial grass. This helps the blades stand up, cushions the turf, improves durability, and emulates the look and feel of natural grass.

Artificial Green Installation
If you are an avid golfer dreaming of a private green for short hits at home, consider installing a synthetic turf green in your backyard. Choose from quarter, half, or three-quarters of an inch-thick foam, creating a resilient texture that enhances your game.
