What is artificial turf made of?
Typically, synthetic grass is created with a blend of polypropylene and polyethylene, made into synthetic fibers to look and feel like natural grass. Then, it is joined with rubber granules and silica sand to help keep the blades upright.
Is artificial turf safe for my children?
Kids love it! An artificial lawn is absolutely safe for children. Some synthetic products are softer than natural grass, so falling during play doesn’t leave injuries or stain clothing. It produces no pollen, so kids will likely see fewer allergies. The infill used is anti-microbial, so it lessens the chances of bacteria spreading to children and pets.
How long does it last?
Most of The Woodlands Grass products are designed to last 8-10 years in a sports field application with constant use. Realistically, you should expect our products to last a period of 20+ years in your yard with regular preventive maintenance. You may need to brush it occasionally with a broom or a gentle, plastic rake to keep it looking pristine, or we can maintain the turf for you. See the Maintenance and Service page.
How much does it cost?
The price typically ranges between $8 to $20 per square foot depending on the application. Homeowners find they save money in the long run because they aren’t buying yard maintenance items and/or paying monthly for lawn/maintenance work.
Will it reduce pests like bugs and small animals?
Yes, this product greatly reduces pests. It covers the compacted ground, which prevents insects from getting to their food source. Small animals, like rabbits, moles and groundhogs, can’t eat it so they go elsewhere. Say goodbye to pesky critters!
Can it stain?
We haven’t come across anything that can stain it yet. Even paint can be softened with paint remover and rinsed off. Sticky food spills should be hosed off to prevent them from attracting dirt and bugs.
Does it mildew?
The Woodlands Grass uses quality synthetic lawn products that are porous, so mildew is highly unlikely. Simple household products remedy many problems.
I thought artificial turf was just for sporting applications. Can you put it on residential lawns?
Synthetic turf got its start on professional athletic fields in the 1960s, but newer products were developed specifically for residences. Homeowners choose this product for a variety of reasons, including the consistent beauty it, less hassle in upkeep, water conservation, and cost savings. Some local governments and Homeowner's associations have regulations regarding synthetic lawns, so be sure to follow local ordinances before installing them.

Is synthetic grass dog-friendly?
Over 85% of our customers are dog owners. This turf is incredibly dog-friendly and is used by many Humane Societies and professional pet boarders/groomers in dog runs. It doesn’t stain and urine drains through it and droppings can be picked up as they would be with regular grass and/or rinsed off with a hose. Best of all, dogs can’t dig through an artificial lawn!
How well does it drain?
The products The Woodlands Grass uses have a proprietary backing that drains better than anything else on the market. Coupled with the crushed stone base, it is a superior drainage system for your lawn or pet area.
How long does it take to install?
Typically, installation takes one to three days.
How hot does an artificial lawn get in the Texas heat?
An artificial lawn can get hot in the summer, depending on the infill used. The grass does not stay as cool as natural grass which has water running through it, but it will not absorb or radiate heat like pavement, rock or brick. It can be cooled down with sprinklers if needed.
Is this safe for the environment?
Yes, an artificial lawn is completely safe for the environment. This product is made using environmentally friendly standards and helps conserve water and eliminate the use of pesticides. The Woodlands Grass only carries products that meet or exceed minimum standards for research and development, ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental as well as STC (Synthetic Turf Council) guidelines.
Will weeds ever grow through my artificial lawn?
Weeds are not typical in an artificial lawn. Some may grow around the border occasionally, and there may be a sprout inside the infill. A standard weed killer can be used at any time.
Why doesn’t it fade?
Our products have built-in UV protection that allows them to hold their color even under the most brutal conditions. Independent studies show that quality artificial turf will fade at a rate of much less than 1% per year. This means that after ten years in direct sunlight, any color change will be imperceptible to the human eye.
Does it come with a warranty?
Yes, the turf The Woodlands Grass uses is backed with some of the best and longest warranties in the business! It covers fading, discoloration, and problems with materials and workmanship.

What kind of maintenance does it require?
It is more of a matter of keeping it clean than maintenance. On occasion, a perimeter weed treatment may be required. Depending on your unique situation, some weeds may grow on top of all these products. Easily remove organic materials from the surface by using a leaf blower. Rakes may be required for moving heavier objects; however, a leaf blower is an ideal tool for general upkeep. A stiff bristle broom can be used to “fluff " the high-traffic areas worn from use.
